Youth Enrichment Strategies (YES) sends impoverished children from Richmond (and surrounding areas) to Summer Camp, opening imaginations to possibilities and opportunities not glimpsed in their bleak, urban environments. We also bring entire families from three Richmond elementary school communities to Family Camp weekends. There families participate as a unit in enriched programming based on an environmental theme. Together they try the zipline, climbing wall, an elaborate art project, a night walk, and campfire. This is often the family's only vacation of the year. On Sunday morning, adults split off to participate in a workshop to discuss their most pressing concerns with the help of a facilitator. All activities and the workshop are conducted in both Spanish and English. Parents glow with the joy of seeing their children grow and change through Summer Camp, and families are strengthened through their shared experiences at Family Camp. To improve the understanding of introverts in the eyes of others and in their own eyes, Elizabeth Wagele has written "The Happy Introvert - A Wild and Crazy Guide for Understanding Your True Self." It is a friendly, informative book which also makes good use of her cartoons. There are chapters that describe introverts and extroverts at their best and worst in all of life's situations.
Help spread the word of this book and her other books on the Enneagram, including "The Enneagram Made Easy" and "Are You My Type, Am I Yours?" co-authored with Renee Baron, "The Enneagram of Parenting," and "The Beethoven Enneagram," a CD based on his piano sonatas. "Finding the Birthday Cake," an Enneagram book for young children, will be published in the spring. The Enneagram promotes understanding of those different from ourselves. The premise is that there are 9 basic types of people, each one equal to the next. Within each type there are endless variations, but each type is recognizable with some familiarity with the fascinating system.

Amy Gorman is Director of Project Arts and Longevity, interested in interviewing women over 85 who are also artists, musicians, dancers, writers. She is a speaker in the area of creativity and aging at conferences, professional groups, women's meetings, etc.
